Framed by a modern masterpiece, the home of the South Melbourne branch of the Bank of New South Wales is a historic gem with a bright future.
The historic bank was designed by Godfrey and Spowers, two of the most prolific designers of banks in Victoria at the time. William Godfrey was awarded the Royal Australian Institute of Architects Gold Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon Australian architects.
When the bank opened its doors in City Road in 1932, its vault held pounds and gold bullion for the region’s most successful business people. The next chapter for this charming building is destined to be equally as successful; sited front and centre in the façade of The Bank Apartments.
